Oatlands Aquatic Centre, Oatlands, TAS

Originally constructed in the 1950s as an outdoor pool, the Oatlands Aquatic Centre recently underwent a major renovation, funded jointly by the Tasmanian State Government and the Southern Midlands Council. The upgraded facility now features a six-lane, 25-metre indoor swimming pool, an aquatic play area for toddlers, and a gymnasium.

Project Design Brief

For the internal wet areas, the designers aimed to keep the pavements as flat as possible. They were also keen on maintaining the facility’s aesthetic appeal by opting for a discreet drainage system that would blend seamlessly with the pavement finish. Pedestrian safety was a key concern, requiring the drainage system to have openings no larger than 10mm. Additionally, due to the use of chemicals and cleaning agents in pool environments, the drainage system
needed to offer superior corrosion resistance.

ACO's Solution

  • SlotChannel with 10mm slot and safety edge
  • ACO worked with the builder to ensure the custom drain was sized correctly for the application.

Benefits

  • The discreet and slim 10mm slot is suitable for pool users and spectators
  • SlotChannel is manufactured from grade 316 stainless steel for enhanced corrosion resistance.
  • The outlet units were manufactured with the Tile Insert grate to visually preserve the discreet finish of the drainage system.
